Post Description
Written and directed by Tony Award winner Diane Paulus, Amaluna is the first Cirque du Soleil show whose acrobat ratio of females to males is 70/30, and the band is made entirely of women. The show, the company?s 33rd, is a homage to women?s work and voice. Paulus, who?s recently been named by Time magazine to its 2014 list of the world?s 100 most influential people, said, ?I thought, let?s make great theatre and put in the centre of it characters that are female heroines.?
Amaluna invites the audience to a mysterious island governed by goddesses and guided by the cycles of the moon. Its queen, Prospera, plans her daughter?s coming-of-age ceremony in a rite that honours femininity and balance, and which marks the passing of these insights and values from one generation to the next. When a group of young men land on the island, a love story begins between Prospera?s daughter and a brave young suitor.
